SMRP Overview
(Simple Multicast Routing Protocol)

The Simple Multicast Routing Protocol (SMRP) is a transport-layer protocol developed to route multimedia data streams over AppleTalk networks. It supports Apple Computer's QuickTime Conferencing (QTC) technology. SMRP provides connectionless, best-effort delivery of multicast datagrams and relies on underlying network-layer protocols for services. In particular, SMRP facilitates the transmission of data from a single source to multiple destinations. This chapter focuses on the functional elements and protocol operations of SMRP.
